First I saw the white bear, then I saw the black;
Then I saw the camel with a hump upon his back;
Then I saw the grey wolf, with mutton in his maw;
Then I saw the wombat waddle in the straw;
Then I saw the elephant a-waving of his trunk;
Then I saw the monkeys-mercy, how unpleasantly they-smelt!

I chose this poem because it reminded me of my visit to the Cape May County Zoo. I took Olivia and Goerge over the summer and we had such a good time. I remember Olivia commenting on how "smelly" some of the animals were. What did you think about while reading this poem?
ReplyDeleteI also want you to notice the use of rhyme. What are the rhyming words in this poem?
Great Poem
ReplyDeleteI like how they used the word mutton because mutton means meat. I didnt know that mutton was a word until today. This poem is really great.
ReplyDeleteAdonis- So glad you were able to add a new word to your vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the time that me, my cousins, my aunt and my sister, my brother and my grandmother were going to the bronx zoo,but when we got there it was closed.

ReplyDeleteGuadalupe- You forgot your capital I at the beginning of your sentence and you forgot your period at the end of your sentence.
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading this poem, A picture popped into my head and I saw what the zoo might have looked like.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I looked the word 'mutton' up on google and it does mean meat, but there is a second meaning to it which is the square of a body of any size of type.
Luis you need to proofread your writing and put some capital words.
ReplyDeleteAllan-I love how you googled the word mutton and found two different meanings. What do you think the meaning of mutton is in this poem?
ReplyDeletei love the poem because i love the zoo i found some rhyming words like maw and straw
ReplyDeletemy favorit part of the poem is the monkey part.
ReplyDeleteI liked the story cause It has some of the favorit animal i like.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Powell- I think that the word 'mutton' is used to represent meat because the next few words say in his maw. The only thing that can go into your mouth (i looked maw up, it means mouth) is meat.
ReplyDeleteCaitlyn this also reminded me of when i went to the bronx zoo too but it wasnt closed when i went and saw many animals like the white bear and the black bear.
ReplyDeleteKimberly- This also made me think of the time that I went to Bear Mountain Zoo with my first grade class. We saw alot of different animals. There was so many I cant remeber them all.
ReplyDeleteMrs.Powell- Some ryming words that I found were
black, and back,and maw and straw.
CAITLYN THIS ALSO MAKES ME THIK ABOUT WHEN I FIRST WENT TO THE BEAR MOUTAIN ZOO.
